SCUOLA LEONARDO DA VINCI
Introductory Italian Language
Language students will be enrolled at the famous language institute, Scuola Leonardo da Vinci and placed in introductory level language classes. The Scuola employs the "direct method" in which only Italian is spoken. The continual use of verbal communication allows one to learn Italian 'naturally.' The grammar lessons include grammar in the strict sense of the word, listening and writing comprehension exercises, the construction of sentences and dialogues. Conversational activities include greetings, descriptions of common objects, places and people, and vocabulary relating to markets, street directions, restaurants, clothing and professions. Grammatical points covered include the verb 'to be' (essere), the verb 'to have' (avere), definite and indefinite articles, simple prepositions, and superlatives

Art history and archaeology in situ lectures occupy our mornings. In the afternoons, Italian Passages™ participants will enroll in either language or studio art classes, depending upon their area of interest. These afternoon classes will take place during the first two weeks of the program, in Siena and Florence, respectively. The courses are limited to Italian Passages™ students.
